Reading Groups

We run fortnightly Study/Reading Groups. The aim of the study group is to study collectively: to deepen our knowledge of important work in critical theory and its situation in the wider field, and to share and develop ideas about it. The reading list will be created by each group and circulated accordingly.

READING GROUPS 2020

In 2019/20 we ran fortnightly Study/Reading Groups at Bath and Exeter. You can access our archived reading lists at the links below. In Autumn 2020, we will take advantage of the new norm of remote working to run Study Groups open to members of the SSCT from across the SWDTP institutions (Bath, Exeter and Bristol), thus strengthening our network and collective thinking. Building on debates and interests developed together in our 2019/20 study groups, this year our programme hones in on decolonial feminism and social reproduction feminism.

Each of the two study sessions builds towards a partner event on the same topic, featuring prominent external speakers: in October, we welcome Dr. Rosalba Icaza to lead a workshop on decolonig feminism; and in November we will be joined by Leopoldina Fortunati, Camille Barbagallo and Katie Cruz to discuss today’s growing global feminist movement in light of social reproduction theory.

The study groups connected to thr workshops are as follows:

22nd September, 14-15:30: Decolonial feminism session Texts for discussion: ·       M. Lugones (2007) Toward a Decolonial Feminism ·

R.A. Icaza Garza (2017) Decolonial Feminism and Global Politics: Border Thinking and Vulnerability as a knowing otherwise (Chapter 2)

13th November 2020, 16-17:30: Social Reproduction feminism session. Texts and video-link TBC. Contact us for more details.
